Four Philippine universities are placed among the Top 200 institutions in Asia in the QS.com 2009 Asian University Ranking. The University of the Philippines is rated top in the country and 63rd in Asia, followed by De La Salle University (76th regionally), Ateneo de Manila University (84th), and University of Santo Tomas (144th). The ranking is based on four criteria- teaching quality, research quality, graduate employability, and internationalization.

According to the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) World University Ranking 2008, Ateneo de Manila University was the highest ranked institution in Philippines - rose from 401-500 to 254 this year. in 2006 Ateneo was ranked 500th globally.

The University of the Philippines (UP) was ranked 2nd nationally, rose from 398th in 2007 to 276th in 2008. In 2006, UP was ranked No. 299th globally.

De La Salle University and the University of Santo Tomas were both ranked at 401-500th.
